Leo Tolstoy once surmised in that general direction:* “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Chewing on life’s gristle but oh so much the wiser. If it’s not noble savages, it’s noble sufferers Christians (and–boy oh boy!–post-Christians) fancy to fancy. To quote Joschka Fischer, “I’m not convinced.” Gimme salt-of-the-earth busy bees with vim, pep, and ginger anytime. The likes of Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, John von Neumann, or anyone else in trade, industry, and science are brain-dead, shallow nitwits, of course, while spelunking your asshole widens your perspectives (and said asshole) , deepening your soul the deeper you dig–but yet, you get my drift.
That said, no offense to Tolstoy or Boethius, but as a rule sufferers just suffer, all around suck or fans hit by shit not being friends with benefits, contrary to popular belief.
* old chestnut, I know. He’s not being wrong at all, btw–that’s not the point
