  1. according to wikipedia avantgardists like La Monte Young and Stockhausen used overtone singing in the 1960s and this might have been independent and/or with different techniques than the asian “throat singing”. The best known German musician (who collaborated with Stockhausen) was Michael Vetter.
    Apparently Asian composers like Tan Dun have also been influenced by the traditional overtone singing of mongolia and similar traditions.

    It’s good for making really strange sounds in a “natural” (non-electronic) way, that’s probably enough…
